Background: Causative genes for autosomal dominantly inherited familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) have been well characterized. There is, however, another 10-15 % early onset colorectal cancer (CRC) whose genetic components are currently unknown.
